With his victory in the 2008 3M Championship, R. W. Eaks shattered the previous three-day tournament record by four strokes. His 23-under par 193 bested the 19-under mark set by Ed Dougherty in 2000. Eaks’ 23-under total was also six strokes better than second-place finishers Bernhard Langer and Gary Hallberg, who both finished at 17-under par, another new tournament record. The previous largest winning margin was three strokes set by Hale Irwin in 2002.
GREATS OF GOLF CHALLENGE RESULTS Team International, consisting of Chi Chi Rodriguez, Lee Trevino and Charles Coody, won the Greats of Golf Challenge this year. Brad Graves, Director of Sales for Post-it® Products, presented the winning team with a trophy immediately following the event behind the 18th green.
Taking second place was Team Army, consisting of Arnold Palmer, Miller Barber and Don January. Third place went to Team Ryder Cup, consisting of Billy Casper, Tony Jacklin and Gene Littler.
The Greats of Golf Challenge, presented by Post-it Brand Products, features nine PGA Champions Tour professionals playing in a three-person team, better-ball format. The Greats of Golf Challenge is an unofficial tournament unique to the 3M Championship.
The 2008 3M Championship raised over $1.3 million for charity that will
support the programs of United, Abbott Northwestern, Unity and Mercy
hospitals. The tournament has raised nearly $15 million in its
16-year history.
